Cuba, Havana, for Russian Reporter Magazine
Early 2011 the Cuban government has decided to promote self employment in Cuba. In the past only a limited number of independent businesses and professions were already allowed. A list of 178 allowed independent activities with the number of the authorized license was announced by the government to avoid a growing unemployment and social problems. Walking the streets of Havana now you can meet men with guitars playing Cuban musics, street vendors, taxi drivers, photographers, translators ready to serve you - all of them have accepted the offer, trading their government jobs for self-employment and going on this new rocky road for them.
